Epstein had been commissioned to make his first portrait of Peter (
Peter Laughing
) in 1948, and subsequently made this one.
Commissioned by Louis Osman for the Convent of the Holy Child Jesus, Cavendish Square.
Unique among Epstein’s work, the little bronzes have a marvellous vivacity.
A few years later the sculptor had another set cast for Coventry Cathedral.
